It's incredible to think that The Language House is on our 20th anniversary. It's been an amazing journey since we opened our doors in 2004.
What has separated us apart from other TEFL certification courses (both online and onsite) is our authentic sense of community. Yes, we have some of the best hands-on training in the market. Yes, our course is rigorous and includes more actual (observed) teaching practice than just about anyone else. Yes, these qualities (and others) definitely have contributed to our success, but it's the friendships and communities built during (and after) the course that have made us arguably the most popular TEFL certification course in the world.
Since the beginning, I wanted The Language House TEFL to do more than just train new English teachers. Moving to a foreign country to teach English encompasses a lot more than just getting a piece of paper that states you're qualified to teach (a TEFL certification). What it was for me was opening my heart and building relationships with people who were often completely different from who I was.
I would imagine that most people who decide to move to a foreign country and spend a chunk of their days immersed in the local population (teaching their students), would feel similar. Being abroad and away from your family and friends can be a very isolating experience. It's thrilling, but lonely if you are on your own.
My goal for The Language House TEFL was to create a space that would serve as a giant extended family for all trainees who passed through our doors. A place where you could show up alone, and after four weeks of training, meet dozens of likeminded people and create lifelong friendships.
